Hip Hop Republican Blog Recognized by College Republican National Committee

Recently, Brandon Greife, Political Director of the College Republican National Committee wrote an article to thousands of College Republicans talking about the good work HHR blog was doing to grow the party.

“One of the best examples I have found of the growing diversity in the resurgent Republican movement has been Hip Hop Republicans”

A More Diverse Republican Party
Republicans have long been typecast and stereotyped as “old white men.” But as growing College Republican chapters throughout the United States attest - this image is dramatically changing. And why not, conservatism is a set of ideals that does not discriminate based on race or creed but appeals to a set of core beliefs found in all people. It has become increasingly clear that young adults are buying into the ideals of personal liberty, small government, and fiscal responsibility which define the Republican party. This is an important step. This generation of young voters will be the most diverse in history, so too should this generation of Republicans. The party cannot expect to remain competitive in elections without reaching out to the growing numbers of minorities that make up the electorate.

Fortunately, College Republicans are doing their part to spread the conservative message to all segments of our generation. We have a much easier task in that “young adults” is a colorblind term. By educating young adults on issues that concern us, endorsing candidates that include us in their policy plans, and remaining open minded on the best way to solve the issues we face, we will form a diverse and robust coalition of young adults.

One of the best examples I have found of the growing diversity in the resurgent Republican movement has been Hip Hop Republicans. In their own words, “the blog was born of a frustration with blind party loyalty, over 40 years of mismanaged urban policies, and a Republican Party that seems to have forgotten about urban America.”One of the most interesting aspects of the website is “Why We Are Republican” which reminds people of the positive influence the Republican party has had on the history of diversity in America. For instance, did you know…

» Congressional Republicans passed the 13th Amendment, freeing the slaves, against near-unanimous Democratic opposition» The Republican controlled 40th congress passed the 15th Amendment, extending the right to vote to African Americans» The first African American Senator was Republican» The first Hispanic US Senator was Republican» The first Asian-American Senator was Republican

I encourage everyone to learn more about the party’s history at:

Best of luck in the movement. I loved the stated "ideals of personal liberty, small government, and fiscal responsibility". All of those are color-blind. The mistreatment of African slaves and post-13th Amendment African-Americans always came by way of government enforcement. Maladies of today derive from government programs creating damaging incentives in people. The Dems see people in groups (one death is a tragedy, one million deaths are a statistic) while all of us have individual talents, goals and drive.
