Russell Simmons -An Open Letter To My Friend Michael Steele
Just wanted to send a note congratulating you on your election as the new Chairman of the Republican National Committee. I also wanted to thank you for writing a blog for Global Grind. The hip-hop community remains eager to hear the views of national leaders like you who understand the importance of diversity, inclusion and striving to end poverty in our nation and the world.
I have known you to be a strong advocate for the advancement of the poor and also as a supporter of small businesses. This is your chance to make history and real change. I have heard the rhetoric from the mean left and from the angry right. Don't let those who are angry in your base guide your choices or let the people to the left of President Obama push your buttons. If you work directly with the White House, from your informed perspective, you can help to build an effective bridge for the sake of the improvement of the quality of life of millions of Americans.
This is America's great chance for change. We all should be working together for the common good beyond the lines of partisanship. Let's keep this constructive dialogue going and give the American people a comprehensive stimulus package that EVERYONE can support.

Hmmmm....that was very interesting. I call that passive aggresive.
The way I see it, Simmons at least came out and was gracious. He's an icon and no dope. He mentions 'the mean left' as well as 'the angry right' and though I think the left is plenty angry, he was trying to say that there is imperfection on both sides. If Steele (who I adore) plays it right, and I think he will, there may be an exodus from the Democrat party and into ours. That is my dearest wish.
You have an interesting take. It will be interesting to watch. I just do not want our values to be watered down, just to get people to jump to us. I would rather we teach them why we feel this way, and be truthful about it. Protecting the unborn, does not need to be watered down. Life is precious. Blacks are part of the eugenics cycle. Socialism is not a cure for our ills. And reaching across the isle, can only be good for those who do not care passionately about things. But there is a reason there is two parties. We do not agree. To agree does not make it better. To debate why we do not, does. It has a longer lasting effect. So I would rather Michael Steele lead by example. I would rather he teach people about the republican party. I would rather he help them to understand why they should join us in their best interest. But I appreciate your take. And it gives me food for thought.
I meant are two parties. LOL
