I was very shocked to see Reverend Al Sharpton, hosting Former Speaker Newt Gingrich at Cardozo High School in Washington DC during a Martin Luther King holiday celebration. This is not the first time the two partnered on education issues with Sharpton speaking during an American Solutions forum at the Republican National Convention this year in Minnesota.
This outstanding example of bipartisanship caused both to receive standing ovations from their respective audiences. While they admit they have differences on a number of issues both have agreed to work together so American’s can focus on fully investing in our children’s future. Sharpton and Gingrich both believe “Education is the key civil rights issue of the 21st century” and are committed forming new alliances dedicated to reform especially in math and science education.
