Smack dab in the middle of Black History Month, let us be ever vigilant in honoring our past and telling the truth. The myths of President Barack Hussein Obama are beginning while he and Martin Luther King are overshadowing others who made their way possible. The current most glaring bit of misinformation is Obama’s portrayal as the first African American to edit the prestigious Harvard Law Review. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Charles Hamilton Houston, in 1923 became the first African American to graduate from the Harvard Law School . In 1935 this distinguished attorney edited the Harvard Law Review before President Obama had been conceived or thought about. Houston was also the first African American to argue a case before the Supreme Court.
Houston went on to document the injustices of a segregated society in taking a hand held camera through parts of South Carolina to record events which would help rewrite history for African Americans. During his civil rights work he became mentor and motivator to Thurgood Marshall as they laid the arguments against segregation in education. Houston was termed the man who killed Jim Crow for his groundwork was pivotal to the arguments in the Brown vs. Topeka , Kansas 1954 desegregation Supreme Court case.
It is also noted that Attorney Houston became Dean of the Howard University Law School . In addition he was the first general counsel for the NAACP.We must learn our history and insist that it is told accurately as we speak truth to power trying to wipe away the ignorance of misguided generations who would like to forget that history is covered with more heroes than we have willingly acknowledged. Give folks their props, please.

HHR NOTE: Dr. Fisher is correct that Obama was not the first black to "EDIT" the Harvard Review but the article is wrong to conclude that Obama was not the first black "Elected" to head Harvard's Law Review.

Why do we have to try and disparage President Obama’s accomplishments? This is so typical, who runs this website? David Duke?
Give folks their props, please! Charles Hamiltion Houstan was black so I doubt if David Duke would highlight him on this blog. The article is making a point that if our rush to label "first" upon Obama we do not push aside those blacks that also led the way before him. There stories and accomplishments should not be forgotten simply because people care little for history
I wish someone would write about Frederick Douglas. His story of personal responsibility is so uplifting. Especially when seggregation was still practice, yet he saw the need for education and good work ethic.
President Obama was the First black president of the Harvard Review. No one said he was the first Black to edit it.
But yes we all know Obama is riding on the backs of African AMericans. How else can you explain a man of a White Kansan mother and Kenyan father of mixed arab black ancestry not own ethnicity.
But then again he is truly African American. Black AMericans need to just call themselves Amnerican Blacks.

...and you wonder why many educated people are detest the Republican party.
Dr Fisher's post and required correction is additional material indicating that there can be no bipartisanship with the GOP. bipartisanship to the GOP means that Democrats do exactly what the GOP deems necessary. The GOP is not willing to compromise.
The ATM changes and educational cuts are aspects of the stimulus package that the CBO says are worthwhile.
The GOP had the Presidency, Senate and House and were fiscally irresponsible, now they claim fiscal responsibility. Balderdash.
Is BMW Direct still providing campaign funding advice to Republican candidates?
Are such groups as the Tyson Organization & Strother Duffy Strother still specializing in voter contact services to Democratic candidates?? Stop being hypocritcal Democrats.
