The Man of Steele

"We got the power of Steele behind us."

Michael Steele has been elected chairman of the Republican National Committee. Today history was made and the Republican Party is better off because of it. Congratulations Steele! ....... Now, we wait for the "naysayers" and all those who will try to "explain" his win.

RNC Chairman Michael Steele Remarks to RNC Winter Meeting

CHAIRMAN STEELE: Thank you very much. As a little boy growing up in this town, this is awesome. [applause]

It is with a great deal of humility and a sense of service that I accept and appreciate and thank all of you for the opportunity to serve as the next national chairman of our very proud, our very strong, and our very, very hard-working Republican National Committee. [applause]

Thank you. To our friends, to those who support us, to those who believe in the ideals, those conservative principles that made us the strong and proud party that we are, to Americans who believe in the future of this country, to those who stand in difference with us, it is time for something completely different. And we're going to bring it to them. [applause]

We're going to bring, we're going to bring this party to every corner, every boardroom, every neighborhood, every community, and we're going to say to friend and foe alike, we want you to be a part of us, we want you to work with us, and for those of you who wish to obstruct, get ready to get knocked over. [applause]

So, I want to thank all of you especially. I remember sitting on his body in 2000 and in 2002, and I never thought this day would come. I want to thank especially my friends in the territories who, I can assure you as I assure all of you; you will be a part of helping us build and grow this party in a way we have never seen before. [applause]
To my friends in the Northeast, get ready, baby, it is time to turn it on and work, and work to do what we always do well - and that is win. We are going to win again in the Northeast. We're going to continue to win in the South. We are going to win with a new storm in the Midwest. And we're going to get to the West, we're going to lock it down, and we're going to win there too. [applause]

This is our opportunity. This is our opportunity. I cannot do this by myself. As I said to so many of you when we met, this is about empowering you, our chairman, the national committeemen, the national committeewomen, to lead this party, to grow this party, to strengthen this party, we stand proud as the conservative party of the United States. And we will make sure that we work hard to make sure those principles, those values that have made us the party of Lincoln are part of the issues, are part of the policies, are part of helping set a new direction for this country. We will cede no ground to anyone on matters of principle, on matters that matter to the people of this country. So my first official act as your new chairman is to end this speech right now. [applause]

Because we have a few more races to do. To fill out the leadership team that you will select to lead you the next two years. I look forward to visiting all of you in your neighborhoods, in your backyards, as we grow and build the republican party of this country. Thank you, again, for this honor. God bless you, god bless our party. [applause]

To all those who say that a black Republican can't be elected dog catcher. This buds for you.

I've been reading about his plans for the party and I am charged! Thank you for your dedication, Chairman!

I can explain it for you! He is smart, qualified, and going to take this party back!!! WOO HOO!!!!! I have been wanting him in a larger role for a LONG time!! We can count on the MAN OF STEELE!!!

Congrats to Michael Steele. I disagree with his politics, but I do think he was the best of the group running for RNC chair.

Steele is a much better image for the GOP than Rush Limbaugh who provided fodder for Liberals when Rep Phil Gingrey called in to grovel at Limbaugh's feet.

Congrats to Michael Steel....but back to reality look at who he was running against these guys with the exception of Blackwell were exactly stand up guys...if he wasn't chosen I would have been worries...So I am not too excited about this pick because a nice size of the GOP looks to Palin as being the future of the party. Unfortunately, this doesn't change anything.

He's an Uncle Tom Negro who got elected simply to be a counter to Barack Obama. Republicans should be ashamed of themselves for electing this man.

Na... I think Obama is an Uncle Tom who got elected as a counter to Rice

this is the greatest thing to happen in along time, for all colors, Michael Steele is the guy we need, he should have been Senator 2 years ago, thanks Obama, but now is the time for Michael Steele to SHINE BABY!!

Michael Steele is an Uncle Tom? how about Barack Obama who campaigned against him in Maryland, telling black people to now vote race, to elect the white guy, even though former NAACP Quasi Enfume backed Steele over his own Democrat running for the senate seat, then that same week, Obama went to Tennessee to campaign for Harry Ford Junior, saying 'We need another brother int he Senate.' who's the Uncle Tom now?

and democrats called Michael Steele the 'Lawn Jockey of the Republican Party' whos the party of racism now?

Your facts are in error. former NAACP director Kwesi Mfume never supported Michael Steele Mfume referred to Steele's son.

Michael Steele told Tavis Smiley that race trumped everything. Supporting Harold Ford Jr could not be characterized as an "uncle Tom" move. If Obama's support of a "White" guy is an Uncle Tom characteristic, what is Steele doing taking a position supporting a whole host of White Representatives and Senators in the GOP?

Enjoy the Steele victory, but stay grounded in reality.

it's time to stop focusing on color and start focusing on party issues...listen to the voice...we can rebuild with Steele!

Michael Steele biggest challenge will be fund raising. All the previous RNC Chiarman left the RNC with huge surplus of over 20 million. Steele has to show that he can raise huge amounts of money and not run a deficit. He needs to start hitting the ground running now.

I think Michael STeele will neutralize the critics who believe that if you are Black you must be a Democrat. Finally, the rest of America will wake up and realize Black people are very diverse and liberals do not speak for all of us.

Michael Steele has the support of Sarah Palin. I think the party can be inclusive of many groups. WHile Micahel is the RNC chairman now, nothing is wrong if Sarah wants to run for a senate seat or higher office later.

On another note I find it interesting that both Major parties now have a Pro Life candidate at the top of the Committe - DNC Tim Kaine and now RNC Michael Steele.

Too often we tend to debate the issue of abortion from a religious view point. Time to adjust strategy and get more people involve. Abortion is crime against the origins of the unborn. It is a civil rights issue.

I believe a woman has the right to choose. But once that woman makes the decision to have sex and get pregnant then she gave up the right to destroy her fetus unless her life is in danger. If she was raped, she should seek medical attention as soon as possible and not wait until 3 months and then decides she wants to abort it.

The federal government needs to get out of the business of funding Planned parenhood and abortions. Not For Profit organizations and charities are already doing enough. Why should American Tax payers money go to overseas groups to fund China One child per family abortion quotas?

The sad thing about this is the developing world will see an increase number of abortion factories especially in places such as Africa and Asia. Some liberals believe that the world is over populated and the only way to control poverty is for poor people to have more abortions.

According to the information on http://www.blackgenocide.org, “Several years ago, when 17,000 aborted babies were found in a dumpster outside a pathology laboratory in Los, Angeles, California, some 12-15,000 were observed to be black.” This incidence of abortion has resulted in a tremendous loss of life. It has been estimated that since 1973 Black women have had about 16 million abortions. Michael Novak had calculated “Since the number of current living Blacks (in the U.S.) is 36 million, the missing 16 million represents an enormous loss, for without abortion, America’s Black community would now number 52 million persons. It would be 36 percent larger than it is. Abortion has swept through the Black community like a scythe, cutting down every fourth member… The founder of Planned Parenthood said, “Colored people are like human weeds and are to be exterminated.” Is her vision being fulfilled today?

How frightening sad that Barack Obama mother gave him life and he will go down in history as the most pro abortion President. Obama says he wants to reduce the number of abortions. What if more Americans had just stood by and say we want to reduce the number of slaves and not end slavery? For the few that risk life and death slavery was defeated.

Merie -

I just wanted to thank you for posting the link on blackgenocide.org.

Oh my goodness, that is just not what God wants of us! It breaks your heart!

I was particularly struck by the table that shows the number of black Americans who have died since 1973 for various reasons. It really makes a person appreciate what has happened.

Anyway, thanks.

This "Uncle tom" mess needs to disappear now. I hate the term...shit everyone can't be hood. You can't please everyone (black people)

Most interesting about Steele is that he is pro-life, yet wants to bring "moderates" back into the party. Let's face it, moderate is usually code speak for "pro-choice".

We need moderates in the party. But it would be difficult to trust someone like Arlen Specter or Christine Todd Whitman to lead an outreach towards moderates. As a staunch pro-lifer, I would worry about them undermining the Republican Party's commitment to life.

Just as it took Nixon to open up China, it will take a strong pro-life Republican to engage with moderates. Note that Nixon did *not* make peace with China by implementing Maoism in America.

"To all those who say that a black Republican can't be elected dog catcher. This buds for you."

Winning an political party election is somewhat different than representing a citizen constituency, doncha think you mo-mo?

And also doesn't it bother you that the only way a black could ascend to a visual position in the GOP is to attack the newly elected black President????

Tokenism anyone?

Get real.

The GOP is a couple of months late and about 30 million negroes short.

Bianca,

"This "Uncle tom" mess needs to disappear now. I hate the term...shit everyone can't be hood. You can't please everyone (black people)"

So those are the choices for black folks, eh Bianca?

Republican or 'hood?

You negroes don't have a clue and don't seem like you'll ever get one.

I guess when an elected Senator from the great state of NEW YORK dumps there elected office for ... Then what? Don't pay any mind to UncletomSteve He might have an intelligent post once in a blue but mostly he's got jokes..

The Republican Party has welcomed back intellectualism. All the freaks and far right nutjobs need to find a new home.

Obama said he would bring change, so much so that the GOP has elected a brotha to run the whole thing.

Yeah uptownsteve those are the choices. Please don't refer to me as a Negroe because I feel differently than yourself. In actuality I am a Democrat. My guy one in this election. Since you take everything in the literal sense let me clarify. When you aren't "keeping it real" or "hood" you are considered a uncle tom. This mentality must stop. No those are not the only choices and here you are perpetuating it by calling everyone who doesn't agree with you a negro. You are doing the exact same thing. I guess it's Democrat or Negro. You are the one who seems to not have a clue.

Anonymous said...

Bianca,

You are just downright ignorant.

What you actaully are implying is that anyone who doesn't agree with YOU is 'hood.

In fact that's why black conservatives in general incessantly suggest.

And it's exactly why most African-Americans place black conservatives in the same regard as lice.
