Quote of the Day

~When I was growing up in Western New York, the Republican Party was definitely the more liberal on civil rights issues. The core of the Democratic Party was white, ethnic union members, who felt very threatened by antidiscrimination measures. Nelson Rockefeller was the Governor, Jacob Javits and Charles Percy the Senators, John Lindsay the Mayor of New York City -- they all had significant support in the black community. And of course, the only black in the Senate at the time was Massachusetts Republican Ed Brooke. College Confidential
